Celebrating the life of

Virginia Bryan Connerat Logan

February 10, 1938 - October 01, 2025

Virginia Bryan Connerat Logan

Virginia Bryan Connerat Logan, known to many friends as "Ginger" and as "Dear" to her cherished and beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, October 1st, 2025.

Virginia was born on February 10th, 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Helen McIver Gignilliat Connerat and Colonel William Henry Connerat, III. She grew up in Savannah, where she attended The Pape School and the Charles Ellis School before graduating with honors from Savannah High School. Following graduation, she enrolled in the Art Institute of Atlanta and worked for Retail Credit Corporation. While her father was stationed in Europe, she transferred to the American University in Munich, Germany, and ultimately to the University of Heidelberg.

Virginia then worked in Orleans, France, before returning to Atlanta, where she held various positions at Colonial Pipeline Company and the Marriott Hotel Group. During her time in Atlanta, Virginia was involved with numerous organizations including Cotillion Club of Atlanta, The Junior League of Atlanta, and The Assemblies Club, becoming Vice President of this organization. Virginia made her debut at the Christmas Cotillion in Savannah in 1957, alongside many wonderful friends, all of whom she remained close to throughout her entire life.

While volunteering at Grady Memorial Hospital, she met her future husband, J. Robert Logan, a well-dressed young doctor in residency who was also from Savannah and with whom she shared numerous mutual friendships. After an exciting engagement filled with stories and laughter that entertained their friends and family for many years, they married in Savannah on August 19th, 1966, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and were happily married for fifty-nine years. The couple initially moved to Eglin Air Force Base during the first few years of their marriage while Robert served in the Air Force. Eventually, they returned to Savannah, where Robert established a private Ear, Nose, and Throat practice. For twenty-five years, Virginia played a crucial role in the office’s day-to-day management, and everyone knew she was the key to getting an appointment or receiving a house call.

In addition to raising the couple’s three sons, she was actively involved in many community and civic organizations, including serving as the second President of the Ardsley Park/Chatham Crescent Neighborhood Association. A devoted Christian, she was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Virginia was a member of The Telfair Museum, The Georgia Historical Society, The Historic Savannah Foundation, The Friends of Andrew Low House Museum, The Married Woman's Card Club, and The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, serving as the State Treasurer, Archivist, and was honored with election to the Roll of Honor in 2013.

Virginia loved to travel and experience the world. She was always eager to learn and naturally curious about other cultures. Whether it was with family or friends, she traveled across the US, North America, Europe, and Asia. She had unforgettable trips to Japan, China, and South Korea with some of her closest friends, during which every antique dealer they met became their new best friend. Her travels to England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, and Turkey included many moments that went down in local lore. However, the most memorable trip of her life was the pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Egypt, and Jordan, during which she climbed to the top of Mount Sinai.

Virginia was a force of nature, embodying a blend of style, grace, grit, generosity, and perseverance that was uniquely hers. She never encountered a task that was too large or a detail that was too small. Her family and friends will never forget her authenticity and her unwavering commitment to those she loved. One could say that Virginia radiated affection, and those who knew her always felt her love and warmth. She loved her husband, her sons, and her friends, but she held a special place in her heart for her three grandsons, Lawton Jr., Alston, and Grant.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son, J. Robert Logan, Jr., who lost a valiant battle against cancer at age 12, and her brother, William H. Connerat, IV. She is survived by her husband, J. Robert Logan, MD, her sons, Lawton McIver Logan (Ashley Stenersen Logan) and Clarkson Connerat Logan (Margaret "Meta" Lawrence Adler Logan), her grandsons, Lawton McIver Logan, Jr, Alston Stone Logan, and Grant Stenersen Logan, her two sisters, Carolyn Connerat Mooradian (Ron), Lee Connerat Cohan (Ron), and her brother Carter McGruder Connerat. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and cousins.

We would not be here today without the enduring love and friendship of Geneva Johnson and many others who have profoundly impacted our lives over the years. We would also like to thank the caregivers and special angels who have been so supportive over the past few years, especially Alicia Jensen, Cornelia Schultz, Eboni Lee, Brenda Price, Pamela Jenkins, Octavia Nelson Mikel, Janice Milledge, JeToria Gayle, Katrice Hudson, and countless others.

A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Church, 325 Bull Street, Savannah, on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at 11 am, with a burial following the service at Greenwich Cemetery, 330Bonaventure Road, Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. John’s Church or The Andrew Low House Museum.

My husband Charlie and I met Virginia when we were married in 1977 and moved into the Chisholms' garage apartment across the street from her and Dr, Logan on East 45th. Street. She was a lovely, kind neighbor and later became a friend of my mother Joan Jones through church and the beauty parlor. They had weekly appointments that were booked at the same time for years and my mother looked forward to visiting with Virginia while they had their hair done. As then-members of Christ Church Charlie and I attended a church supper function inside the Logans' elegant home in 1978 where Virginia had prepared a shrimp over rice dish that I remember with clarity all these years later --- and have never been able to replicate that fine dish. May she rest in peace. Julia J. Williams
